JT The Bigga Figga Teams Up with Author Adisa Banjoko for Historic Joint Lecture
“Perfecting the Business and Culture of Hip Hop”

San Francisco, CA, April 4th, 2006: Get Low Records and Lyricalswords.com are proud to announce a historic joint lecture by Bay Area Rap pioneer JT The Bigga Figga and author of “Lyrical Swords Vol. 1& 2”, Adisa Banjoko. The event will take place at the African Culture Complex in San Francisco on April 13th 2006, located at 762 Fulton St. at Webster. “Right now, Hip Hop is in a state of confusion,” stated Adisa Banjoko. “So many artist are focused on elements of Hip Hop culture that they are neglecting their business sense. In order to maintain control over the art, the artist needs realistic business strategies and tactics.”

JT agreed, “The other problem is that you have people coming into the business of rap or other aspects Hip Hop, looking to get paid. That’s a good thing. But they’re giving no thought to the cultural responsibility they have to the communities they serve. Our lectures will cover both aspects so we can bring more balance to the game. Economic independence will secure artistic independence and freedom of the Hip Hop community.”

Adisa Banjoko is world renowned author of “Lyrical Swords Vol. 1: Hip Hop and Politics in the Mix” and “Lyrical Swords Vol. 2 : Westside Rebellion” on self-owned YinSumi Press. He has lectured at various universities including Harvard, Brown, Stanford and U.C. Berkeley on the various social, political and spiritual trends within Hip Hop.

Adisa has also been seen speaking at San Quentin and Vacaville prisons giving talks on social, racial and economic struggles and their potential solutions. JT The Bigga Figga is an internationally known Bay Area Rap icon and CEO of Get Low Records. His business acumen has garnered him equal respect on the streets and in the boardroom. Get Low Records has released more than 100 albums since 1992. JT is also author of “Black Wall Street: The CEO Manual”. General seating available and event will be $10.00 at the door.
